Jara Family – Centennial Park Maternity

I love photographing Sydney maternity sessions, but these sessions are so much more than just showing off the baby bump. Not only do they show off the glowing Mum, but also show the love both parents have for each other. Throw in the addition of your other children, and they turn into a family shoot full of fun and smiles.

I met Felipe years ago during a photography workshop, so I was honoured to reconnect and capture another important maternity milestone in his family’s life. The addition of number 2! We decided on Centennial Parklands as the maternity shoot location, one of Sydney’s most picturesque parks. This grand park has more than 189 hectares of open space including gardens, wetlands, sports fields and wide avenues with cycle tracks. With so many great locations, we were spoilt for choice on this Sydney maternity shoot.

We only had less than an hour to create some magic. Accidents, road closures and backed up traffic almost put an end to this Sydney family shoot before it started. Luckily, I've photographed numerous clients’ sessions in Centennial Parklands for weddings, engagements and portrait sessions. So, I chose an area near the Duck Pond that has a little bridge, grassed areas and leafy green backdrops.

During my maternity and family sessions, I aspire to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere where my clients can be themselves and enjoy their shoot. Of course, I give some guidance on location and posing, but the magic happens in those spontaneous candid moments and interactions. Documenting this session was a joy, and the love and excitement for the arrival of their newest addition is truly evident.
